PUT ON your posh frocks and tuxedos and prepare to go around the world – in wines.

Glitz and glamour is coming to Weymouth this Friday as AIR FM hosts Winefest 2014.

It’s taking place at The Rembrandt Hotel and will see guests treated to wines from around the world, as well lots of music and entertainment and a special Brits-style award ceremony.

AIR FM station manager Carl Greenham said: “As a community radio station, we have to think of ways to make money and drum up support.”

“The idea started when some of us attended an event put on by Weymouth Rowing Club.”

There will be six wines from around the world to try. Waiting staff will be decked out in outfits which represent the countries of origin.

Music from those countries will be played and themed foods served.

Other entertainment will include music from Danny and the Goosemen and an appearance by toastmaster David James.

Carl thanked the volunteers working behind the scenes to make Winefest a success.

He added: “We’re taking the pomp and ceremony of a wine festival and putting AIR’s little twist on it. There’s lots of silly fun to be had, it’s going to be a great night.”

AIR launched on 107.2 FM last May, aiming to bring the ‘feelgood factor’ back to Weymouth.

Before this, it began as a student radio station, streaming online to students at Westfield Arts College.

But its popularity soon grew and it pulled in students from across the area.

Now AIR is streamed live online 24 hours a day as well as on 107.2FM.

In August, the Dorset Echo teamed up with AIR and has been bringing listeners the latest news at 8.20am and 4.20pm ever since.

Carl said AIR FM is hoping to stage ‘more and more’ fun events for the community.

Winefest tickets cost £20 per person and more details can be found at aironair.co.uk
