Dorset Echo: Bus chiefs to be put on spot over fare changes Bus chiefs to be put on spot over fare changes

PASSENGERS will have a chance to grill bus company bosses over changes to fares this week.

As reported in the Echo, First Dorset is restructuring fares and tickets in a move it says will make things simple and give customers best value for money.

However concerns have been raised about the changes as some fares and passes will be increasing in price.

Questions have also been raised about the ticket being introduced to replace the day ticket.

Representatives from First Dorset will be at the King’s Statue in Weymouth this Friday between 9.30am and 3.30pm to answer any customer queries about the new fares.

They will be near the Portland and Dorchester bus stops on the shops side of the Esplanade.

First says the changes, which come into effect this Saturday, will result in many return journeys costing just £1 more than a single journey of £2.50 and over.

To meet these changes, the First Dorset region will be split into fare zones. This enables both adult and child singles and return fares to be available between each zone that is linked by a direct bus route.

Customers will be able to buy one through ticket for their journey rather than several on each leg of their journey. These tickets will replace the existing day tickets and give customers the option of breaking their journeys without having to pay anything extra.

Notice how much notice the "First" Bus company gave, not only in announcing this half-baked scheme but giving notice of when Managers would be available to be grilled. Can you imagine how much grief the poor old drivers'll get about this?

"poor old drivers?" the same poor old drivers that are holding the company to ransom? It is probably as a result of those demands that the fares are going up.
