THERE will be no room for passengers during Jason Matthews’ reign at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The experienced stopper has been around the non-League circuit for 15 years and during that time has learnt the importance of value for money.

Matthews told Echosport: “Tony Greaves (club director) and I are working hard on targets for next season and make no mistake people are playing for contracts now.

“Plans are being made and we are speaking with people all the time.

“I have even had a few contact me, which has been encouraging, and it is up to the lads we currently have to stake their claim.

“One thing is for sure and that is we cannot afford to carry people that only give one performance every four games.

“We need players that can do the business on a consistent basis and that is something I will be looking at between now and the end of the season.”

Weymouth will welcome back Jake Green, Michael Walker and Lamar Powell for this afternoon’s league clash against Biggleswade Town.

Sean Zima will also keep his place in the squad but there are doubts surrounding Ben Joyce and Scott Walker.

Carl McClements is unavailable while Ashley Wells (groin) and Mark Ford (foot) are both sidelined with injuries.

Commenting on Ford, Matthews added: “We assessed the injury earlier this week and he is still at least a fortnight away.

“The last thing we want to do is rush him back and we have to be very careful with it, particularly after Dave Allen had to undergo an operation to get his foot pinned not so long ago.”

Allen, along with Simon Evans and Kyle Critchell, has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
