Search for young volunteers to visit people held in police cells
1:28pm Monday 3rd March 2014 in News
YOUNG people are being sought to visit people held in police cells.
A recruitment event will be held at Weymouth College on Wednesday, March 12 at 1pm.
ICVs inspect police cells and check on the welfare of those in detention.
The volunteers can then make unannounced visits to custody suites across the county.
There are currently 18 visitors in operation across the county and Dorset PCC Martyn Underhill is keen to find other volunteers from across Dorset to help boost the numbers.
He said: “A large proportion of those detained are under the age of 30.
“I would like to welcome all members of the public who are keen to help the force deliver on this aspect of the Police and Crime Plan, particularly young adults and minority ethnic groups.
“This will enable ICVs to be representative of the detainees they are visiting.”
The closing date for applications is Friday, March 21.
