WOMEN are being urged to put their best foot forward in the moonlight and help a good cause.

Weldmar Hospicecare Trust has launched its eighth Midnight Walk which this year will feature a whole evening of entertainment.

The Weymouth event, Weldmar’s ‘flagship’ fundraiser, is not until the summer but females over 14 can now register with ‘early bird’ rates available until the end of April.

Last year’s Midnight Walk was ‘the best yet’ with over 900 women and girls taking part helping to raise more than £100,000.

Weldmar is commemorating three decades of care throughout 2014 and it is hoped this year’s event will be equally well supported.

There are three routes to choose from – five miles, 6.5 miles or a more challenging 10-mile route. All will start from Weymouth College, where a party atmosphere will get walkers in the mood.

Event organiser Matt Smith said “This is our flagship event, which just gets better every year.

“I am always amazed by the incredible atmosphere and we ensure that it is a fun-packed night for walkers before, during and after the walk.

“We will be having a party before the walk to celebrate our three decades of care and will have a fun warm-up session before the walkers are set on the way, pounding the streets of Weymouth, all wearing flashing headgear.”

People can register as an individual or as a team. Over the years people have taken advantage of the evening to celebrate their birthdays, retirements and last year a group celebrated a hen night.

Matt Smith said: “The amount of money that is raised from our Midnight Walk is outstanding and it makes all the hard work of months of organising worth it. All sponsorship money goes towards the continuation of care, love and support that we provide in the community, through our day services or as an in-patient at Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester.”

Weldmar is also looking for volunteers to help with marshalling the route and registering walkers on the night. More than 120 volunteers are needed to help make the event successful and safe.

THE Midnight Walk takes place in Weymouth on Saturday, July 19.

Adult early bird fee is £14 before April 30 and £16 after. Under 18s pay £12.

The registration fee covers all expenses involved in administering a place and the cost of a T-shirt, refreshments, flashing headwear, goodie bag and entertainment.
