DORSET County Council and West Dorset District Council have scooped top marks in an independent assessment of local government websites.

The Society of IT Managers (Socitm) has praised dorsetforyou.com – the partnership website for the county council and the six borough and district councils –in its Better Connected 2014 report.

Dorset County Council and West Dorset District Council ranked particularly well for their information, achieving the top four star ranking.

West Dorset District Council was also included in a list of the top 20 best developed sites.

The Better Connected report assessed how easy it is to complete a variety of common tasks such as applying for a school place and reporting a missed bin collection using traditional computers and mobile devices.

The website reviewer praised the site as ‘excellent’ with a good customer focus, and said the site gives postcode specific information on bin collection dates, local libraries and household recycling sites.

Dorsetforyou.com partnership chairman, Paul Kent, said he is delighted the website received this independent endorsement but that there is still plenty of room for improvement.

The other district and borough councils retained three stars, with Weymouth and Portland Borough Council and North Dorset District Council narrowly missing out on four stars.
