THE Dorset Echo’s online audience keeps getting bigger.

The storms that hit Dorset’s coasts last month saw a record-breaking number of people head online to check out the latest news, traffic, travel and weather from the Echo’s ever-growing website.

In February, the Echo site recorded its highest ever number of page impressions with 2,511,828 pages being read online and 290,734 people logging on to read the latest news.

The busiest day of the month was Wednesday, February 5, when huge waves battered the coast of Weymouth and Portland.

Sirens sounded at Chiswell as relentless waves washed over the top of Chesil Beach, leaving tons of pebbles and debris littering many of the streets.

Residents in Weymouth and Portland said it was the worst they had seen it in 30 years.

The second highest day for views was Valentine’s Day, where residents battened down the hatches again in the face of yet another storm onslaught.

Bridport News, the Echo’s sister site, also posted impressive figures with a record-breaking 180,111 page views and 42,123 people logging on to check out the latest news in West Dorset.

Editor Toby Granville said: “I am delighted that so many of our readers are logging on to get the latest news as it happens in their area.

“These record-breaking figures are a testament to the hard work of our teams, working round the clock to bring our readers the latest news headlines for Dorset.”
