TWO Scouts are making sure they are prepared when they head off on an adventure to the land of the rising sun next year.

Samuel Breaks, from Sutton Poyntz, and Bethany Mansell, from Preston, are heading off to the World Scout Jamboree in Japan next summer.

The pair are thrilled to have been chosen for the epic adventure but before they go they need to raise around £3,500 for their trip and have already got their fundraising drive underway.

Thomas Hardye School pupil Bethany, 14, said she was really looking forward to the trip to Japan.

She added: “It’s really exciting. I was really surprised to get through.”

Samuel, 13, said that 150 applicants went to a camp at Buddens Scout Camp last October and he could not believe it when he was one of just 36 chosen for the Jamboree in Japan. The Budmouth College student said: “I couldn’t believe it, it was amazing to find out I would be going, I wasn’t expecting it at all.”

The pair have already organised a fish and chip supper events and Samuel said he had plans for more fundraising activities coming up such as bag packing and the scouts heading to the Jamboree will also be doing group activities.

Any local organisations or individuals who want to support Samuel in his fundraising efforts can also contact his mum Sarah on 07769 690111.

Bethany, who has been with the Weymouth East scouts group for around three years, said she was also busy planning more fundraising activities.

She said: “We have got lots of events planned and we need to plan some more to raise £3,500.

“It’s going to quite a busy year and a bit.”
