COASTGUARDS rescued a puppy that had fallen 200ft down a cliff east east of Weymouth.

The Wyke and Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Teams performed the cliff rescue to retrieve Marley, a 20 week old cocker spaniel puppy.

They were called out to a cliff east of White Nothe just before midday yesterday.

Elsewhere, the Portland Coastguard Rescue Helicopter was sent to help rescue a climber who fell from cliffs west of Anvil Point, Swanage.

It was scrambled, along with Swanage and St Albans coastguards and both Swanage Lifeboats, at 2.58pm yesterday.

The man was airlifted to Dorset County Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, to be met by Wyke Coastguards.

Also yesterday afternoon, coastguards were asked to search for an owner after a dog was found wandering on the cliff path near St Albans Head The owner was eventually contacted and found safe.

A fisherman’s boat was found alongside two yachts in Portland Marina after becoming adrift from a pontoon.

Wyke Regis coastguards investigated last night and the vessel was recovered by an angler.

Details were passed to the police for further investigation.
