PASSENGERS are being warned of disruption on the Weymouth-Waterloo line in April as a section of railway in Dorset is closed for four days.

Engineers will be working on the line between Dorchester and Poole as part of a re-signalling project.

Teams need four days’ access to the line to do the work, so South West Trains' services will be affected on Thursday, April 3 and Friday 4 as well as the weekend of April 5 and 6.

From April 3 to 4, the line between Dorchester South and Poole will be closed.

Replacement bus services will run between Poole and Weymouth, supplemented by a shuttle train service between Dorchester South and Weymouth.

From April 5 to 6, the lines between Dorchester South and Bournemouth will be closed.

Work already planned in the Southampton area will also affect services on this route.

South West Trains says passengers from Weymouth and Dorchester travelling long distances on April 5 and 6 should travel via Yeovil Junction if possible.

Lines around Southampton Central will be affected by work on several weekends between now and May including over the four day Easter break to allow for a major programme of track improvement work including replacing 30 sets of points.

The line between Southampton Central and Brockenhurst is closed all day today as part of this work with a replacement bus service provided.
