A WARNING has been issued after a bonfire got out of control and caught a barn alight.
Firefighters were alerted to land near Dorchester this afternoon after the controlled burn spread.
The fire affected items inside including tyres.
Dorset Fire and Rescue Service have warned that small fires can develop in dry conditions.
A brigade spokesman said crews from Maiden Newton and Dorchester were alerted to Muckleford following a call at 4.30pm from a member of the public stating a barn was on fire after their bonfire had spread.
The fire was dealt with quickly but crews remain at the scene damping the area down.
The brigade spokesman said: “Remember when having a bonfire, in these now dry conditions, that a small fire can quickly spread across dry vegetation and have measures put in place, such as a hosepipe, to control the size of the fire.”
He added: “If you are having a controlled burn please let fire control know on 01305 753166 so that you don't get a fire engine turn up for no reason.”
