THE inquiry into the Isle of Portland Aldridge Community Academy’s proposed Maritime House building will resume today.

The inquiry was postponed in January.

Resuming today at 2pm, the inquiry will once again take place at the Portland Heights Hotel on the island. IPACA is appealing against a decision by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council’s planning committee to refuse permission for the development at Maritime House at Southwell Business Park.

Planning inspector Neil Pope said the main issue was whether the benefits arising from the use of the site outweighed any negatives of the scheme.

He added that ‘particular regard’ would be given to: the effect on the character and appearance of the area, any impact on employment land, implications for highway and safety, the effect on the living conditions of neighbouring residents and the need to focus significant development in locations that are or can be made sustainable.

The inquiry was adjourned on day three when barrister for Weymouth and Portland Bor-ough Council Stephen Morgan became ill.
