WEYMOUTH Lifeboat came to the rescue of a boat which broke down off Portland today.
The RNLI all-weather lifeboat was launched this afternoon after coastguards received an emergency call.
The stricken boat, a 26ft rigid inflatable boat (RIB) called No Mercy 2, had two people aboard who were on a return journey back to Weymouth from the Channel Islands.
It suffered engine failure close to the Shambles Bank off Portland.
Lifeboat spokesman Ken Francis said the lifeboat was launched at 3.35pm.
He added: “Once on scene the lifeboat passed a tow to the vessel and took her to the waiting pontoon near to Weymouth Town Bridge arriving back at 5.20pm.”
