SHE’S used to dealing with customer’s orders, but restaurant manager Lizzie Briscoe will be under starter’s orders when she takes part in the Brighton Marathon in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

The 25-year-old from Poole who works at Patrick’s in Ashley Cross, hopes to raise more than £1,000 for the charity, which helps sufferers and their carers cope with dementia.

Lizzi was inspired to attempt the 26-mile run on April 6 after her dad was diagnosed three years ago with early onset of dementia aged 59 years.

She explained: “My dad has just been transferred to a care home as his dementia has progressed; it’s been a difficult time.

“My friend’s mum has also been diagnosed recently with early onset of dementia, so we are buddying up to run the marathon together.

“The charity also commits funds to dementia research, so although I know there isn’t anything at this time that can help my Dad recover from this progressive disease, I hope the funds I raise will help someone else in the future.”

So far Lizzie has raised more than £700 and hopes to raise a further £300 to make a £1,000 donation on completing the marathon.

She added: “Everyone has been so supportive with their donations – especially customers at Patrick’s.

“A lot of our customers have been coming in for years so they all know me very well and have been very generous with their sponsorship.”
