IT’S all aboard for the Best of Dorset.

Supporters of a leisure and tourism showcase climbed aboard the Tall Ship Pelican this morning in Weymouth Harbour to launch the event.

Organised by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council’s events team, the Dorset Echo-backed Best of Dorset leisure show will feature information and ideas of what to do in the county this year.

It is being held at Weymouth Pavilion on Sunday, March 30 from 11am-4pm.

Council tourism and culture spokesman Ian Bruce said: “The Best of Dorset show offers local businesses and attractions a unique opportunity to promote their services, meet their customers and generate a real boost to their business in 2014.”

This year’s 14th annual free event will feature live entertainment on the Weymouth Pavilion stage throughout the day, fun events for children, Nothe Fort Re-enactment group activities and tall ship visits on TS Pelican berthed in the harbour.

There will also be opportunities to get the very latest ideas and information on how to make 2014 in Dorset full of memories and adventures.

Cllr Bruce added: “We are delighted to have Asda in the line-up this year showing the |latest trends in its George department fashion show.

“We would also like to thank Epic Printing for their quality print support and the tremendous support of the new management team at Weymouth Pavilion.”

This year’s theme is ‘volunteers’ and Steve Davies, events officer for Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, said it will ‘recognise the impact and importance of volunteers and use the show to promote the many great opportunities to volunteer in the county’.

Organisers said visitors will also be able to make the most of an Echo-backed visitor map of the area, which will be given out on the day.

There is no more room for exhibitions and trade stands but for further information about the event call Charlie Sheppard on 01305 838512 or go to visitweymouth.co.uk
