IT’S up, up and away as air shows are lined up for Weymouth Carnival – including the Red Arrows and a display to mark the anniversary of the First World War.

And it’s down, down and away as a heart-stopping bungee jump bounces in.

They are some of the thrills and spills on the big day, which is five months away.

As ever, organisers are looking for support to make Wednesday, August 20 a day to remember.

Sponsorship is sought, and applications for procession entries are open.

Weymouth Carnival 2014 chairman Elysia Munday is doing her bit – she will be abseiling from Portsmouth’s 560ft Spinnaker Tower next month to support the carnival pot.

She will be joined by carnival queen Gina Hartley and assistant procession co-ordinator Spencer Martin.

Looking ahead, Elysia said the Red Arrows had been provisionally booked along with the Great War Air Display Team whose appearance comes during the First World War anniversary.

Appearing with nine replica First World War aircraft including the Sopwith Triplane and Fokker Dr1s, the team will perform a ‘dogfight’ in the skies.

Visitors will also get a chance to reach for the skies by taking part in a 160ft bungee jump courtesy of UK Bungee Club and a huge crane on the beach.

Participant will feel the adrenaline rush as they take a leap of faith into the air below and experience the unique experience of bungee jumping as they are pulled back skywards by the bungee cord.

Jumpers need to raise £150 for carnival charities and also pay a £20 deposit.

It is the highlight of this year’s beach zone featuring entertainment and activities.

Elysia said: “The carnival committee have been working tirelessly to enhance this year’s experience by focusing on improving the weak points, keeping up the high standard of the public’s favourite elements and introducing brand new, exciting features.

“One of the plans in the pipeline is definitely going to be a winner for all the thrill-seekers out there; a bungee crane.

“We’re looking for brave individuals to take on our bungee challenge to raise extra money for the carnival charities and have a breathtaking experience all in one.”

Deputy chairman Lee Armstrong is now entries for the procession. To register interest email weymouthprocession2014@outlook.com
