INVESTIGATORS are probing the scene of a house fire in Weymouth.

Four crews were called to High West Street, close to Weymouth Marina, at around 11am today.

The crews, from Dorchester and Portland, used breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze.

Firefighters remain on the scene.

A Dorset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the property was believed to be empty and no-one was thought to be inside.

High West Street has been sealed off to the public.

Speaking at the scene, fire watch manager Bob Terrey said: "We were alerted to reports of a property fire.

"On arrival we found smoke issuing from the property.

"At the height of the incident, four appliances were in attendance.

"This incident is now subject to a further investigation."

It is believed the house fire also spread to the adjoining property.

Mr Terrey added: "We are investigating both properties."

The rescue service are treating the cause of the fire as suspicious and have referred the incident to Dorset Police to investigate.
