CAN ANY of our readers help Pauline de Cardonnel Hoare from South Africa in her quest to track down family ancestors from Dorset?
George John Christopher, her paternal great grandfather, married Mary Jane Guppy, whose parents were John Cox Guppy and Elizabeth Joan (nee Bascombe), on December 24, 1878.
They had five children; Elizabeth Caroline (Bess), Alfred George, who died in the First World War, Pauline’s grandmother Emma, who was born at Warmwell Mill on February 4, 1882, Ada May, Dorothy Mabel and Frances Kate. Pauline writes: “I would like to contact anyone with knowledge of family members from both sides and, if possible get a picture of the mill.
“I believe it to be connected with watercress beds and while I’ve Googled the name I’m not sure if I’ve seen the right place.
“There are several buildings, perhaps tunnels, and what might be a large barn and on a hill is a house which appears to be a good size.”
She adds: “It is not so easy from this distance to dig back into the past and so many requests to various possible sources go unanswered. I can only send this genuine plea, with fingers crossed.”
If anyone can help Pauline in her search for family details, please get in touch and we will pass on our information.
