PEOPLE living in mobile homes in West Dorset could be charged a new licence fee.

Despite concerns that the charge will hit pensioners and those on low incomes, councillors at a meeting of the West Dorset District Council policy scrutiny committee were told the move will cover administrative fees and help to maintain high standards which will benefit park home residents.

There are 400 park homes in West Dorset at 11 sites and the proposed annual fees range from £326 for sites with less than 35 homes and £406 for sites with up to 105 homes.

A consultation is being undertaken to find the views of park home owners and residents and the closing date for comments is Friday, March 28.

Councillors recommended the plans and passed them to the next executive committee meeting for approval.
