A WEYMOUTH netball team will host a charity fashion show for The Will Mackaness Trust.

Wey Sports Netball Club is urging residents and other players to attend in aid of the local good cause.

It is taking place at the Will Mackaness hall at the Wey Valley School on Friday, May 30.

There will be a performance by Peacock Suit with a bar, nibbles and clothes.

The Will Mackaness Trust aims to give as many young people as possible the opportunity to experience the thrill of water activities by providing financial support and assistance.

It was set up in 2008 following the untimely death of the former head boy of The Wey Valley School and Sports College, Will Mackaness.

Will was an avid sportsman who took a full and active part in all aspects of school life, despite undergoing intensive treatment for the most aggressive form of brain tumour.

The fundraiser comes as part of the ’21 for Will’ events which will be taking place in the year following his 21 birthday.

Netball player Darcy Belle was one of the original group of youngsters to benefit from the Trust.

Will’s mum and trustee Pam Govier said: “I am very grateful to Darcy, Juliette and the members of the Weysports netball team for all the hard work they have put into organising the charity fashion show in aid of the trust.

“What’s particularly great about them doing this is that Darcy is one of the original group of youngsters who benefitted from the trust, when she took part in the first windsurfing weekend organised by the trust in 2009.”

She added: “I would also like to thank Paul, of Cafe Oasis and Terry, of Second Wind, for their very generous donations to the raffle.

“Come along to what promises to be a thoroughly enjoyable evening.”

Miss Belle said: “This event is such a great experience for me and I love the cause.

“It will be an amazing night and I hope everyone can make it.

“It’s lovely to see a group of young women helping out with a charity so local and important to us.”

Team coach Juliette Frampton said: “I am thrilled to be involved in this charity fashion show, it’s a cause very close to my family’s heart so it means a lot.

“I know all the money we raise will go towards more young people turning their hand to water sports, this is certainly what we wanted from our Olympic legacy.”

Tickets cost £5 and can be purchased from the Wey Valley School office or by calling 07412030640.
