A LARGE motor boat which had suffered steering failure with three people on board caused concern for coastguards.

Shortly after 7.30pm yesterday evening, the large boat reported it had suffered steering failure, was in rough seas close to Portland Bill and asked for assistance.

An urgency broadcast was made and another vessel towed the boat to Brixham, arriving safely just before midnight.

Earlier on that morning, a muddy green substance was found on Chesil Beach and reported to coastguards shortly after 8am.

After consultation with the Environment Agency about the substance, it was confirmed that this was the annual algae bloom appearing slightly earlier than usual due to the warmer weather.
