DORCHESTER'S next mayor has been revealed.
Councillor Peter Mann was announced as the county town's first citizen for the 2014/15 mayoral year.

Current deputy mayor Andy Canning revealed at a meeting of Dorchester Town Council that Cllr Mann had been chosen following a mayoral selection committee meeting and the proposal was unanimously backed.

Cllr Mann thanked his fellow councillors for their support and said he and wife Sheila were looking forward to the year ahead.

He said: “We both feel very privileged and honoured and will do all we possibly can to support the work of this quality council and this wonderful town.

“Thank you very much indeed.”

Cllr Mann will take over from current incumbent Stella Jones at a mayor making ceremony in May.

Cllr Jones wished her successor every success in the role.

She said: “We are extremely pleased you have decided you would like to be mayor.

“I'm sure you will have a wonderful year.”

Former headteacher Cllr Mann has lived in Dorchester since 1983 and was first elected to the council in 2005.
