An algae bloom several miles long was mistaken for a pollution spill.
Portland Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre on Weymouth harbourside was alerted to the algae bloom by a concerned member of the public yesterday.
They reported a pollution spill off Chesil Beach, on investigation the coastguards found it to be an annual algae bloom, which stretches from Abbotsbury along the coastline to Portland Bill.
