Firefighters helped to rescue a trapped seagull on a roof in the town centre, pictured.

A high-rise fire appliance was used in the operation in St Thomas Street yesterday to free the bird, which was stuck in netting.

The bird was handed over to the RSPCA.

There's no such thing as a 'SEA'gull - they're just gulls if one is speaking of them as a mixed-species group, or generally - otherwise Herring Gulls, Black-headed Gulls and so forth if you wish to distinguish them at species level.
As for it being a ho-hum piece of news, I suppose if someone ran amok with a machete in a school or shopping mall, then people would be complaining about that, and wondering why we can't have a more peaceful town - so which do you want ??!!
