RESIDENTS are being reminded they can have their say on the future of chalets and other leisure facilities at Greenhill in Weymouth.

Drop-in events where people can find out more about the plans will be held at the Mulberry Centre, Commercial Road, on April 3 and 4. It is part of a consultation process launched by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council.

The authority agreed to consult on proposals to market, by formal tender, a 125-year lease of the Greenhill Gardens chalets, Esplanade chalets, the Greenhill Play Gardens and chalets, the Greenhill toilets and the associated facilities.

The council believes a new operator will be able to maintain and improve the chalets and associated facilities to a better standard than the council can afford to.

The move has proved unpopular however with many fearing chalet rents will be put up and public space will be lost by a new development. People have until noon on May 9 to submit their comments on the proposals.

There will also be a chance to talk to the borough council’s property team about the proposals at drop-in sessions at the Mulberry Centre from 3pm to 7pm on Thursday and from noon until 4pm on Friday. For more details and to comment on the proposals go to consultationtracker.dorsetforyou.com

Copies of the consultation and proposals will also be available at the drop-in sessions or by request from Weymouth and Portland Borough Council’s Property Team on 01305 252356.
