PEOPLE in Dorset are encouraged to take part in a family charity workout raising funds for premature and unwell babies across the county.

Louise McLaughlin, a mother of two from Radipole, Weymouth, has organised a workout which will take place on April 12.

The event, which will raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit at Dorset County Hospital, will be held at the Redlands Community Sports Hub in Weymouth from 9.30am to 10.30am.

Louise and two colleagues, Katy Hicks and Valerie Wooldidge, are studying a leadership and management course in conjunction with Dorset County Council.

Mrs McLaughlin said: “A few colleagues and I decided we wanted to create an event to fundraise for the special care baby unit, because the unit is a fantastic cause.

“The nurses there do such an amazing job and we wanted to do whatever we could do to help.

“The workout will be very family oriented and include activities such as running on the spot, squatting and circuit training.”

Personal trainer Andy Sloan will also be taking part in the event and helping run the workout session. Mrs McLaughlin added: “People can come and have a go at the event while also knowing they are helping such a worthwhile cause.

“There will also be fundraising raffle on the day so people taking part can also buy raffle tickets. We are encouraging people to come along, take part and have fun.”

The Special Care Baby Unit is a small but busy unit located opposite the Maternity Unit in East Wing. There are approximately 250 babies admitted to the unit each year.

Alison Bryan, senior sister at the Special Care Baby Unit, said: “What a fantastic event this sounds like. We are very grateful and appreciate all the money that anybody works hard to donate to us. We will always put the money raised to good use to the benefit of the babies and parents here at the unit.

“We wish the three women all the best in their efforts and hope the event is a success.”

Prices for the workout will be £7 for adults and £1 for children under 16. For more information or to get involved email Louise at asmac1978@googlemail.com
