BRIDPORT Town Council has £29,500 ‘left over’ in its budget this year.

The money will go into projects in this year’s budget and is likely to be spent on the town’s Freedom march, the town guide, Salt House refurbishment, skatepark redesign Neighbourhood Plan funding and bins. Town clerk Bob Gillis told councillors at the finance and general purposes committee meeting that the underspend would allow some flexibility in next year’s budget.

Councillors will still get the chance to debate and agree the funding for each project as it arises, he said.

He did ask for the go ahead to spend £2,500 immediately on new bins.

Town surveyor Daryl Chambers said there were six bins on Asker Meadows, which were so well used they had to be emptied every two days.

He said: “People are using them because they are there. We don’t get a lot of reports of mess there.”

But he said at least the first two hours of every day his staff were emptying bins and clearing litter in the parks and play areas.
