A BRAVE six-year-old youngster will lose most of her hair to fashion into a wig for a cancer charity.

Ruby Snow, who lives at Weston on Portland, decided to cut 10 to 12 inches off her hair after hearing more about charity The Little Princess Trust, which provides free real-hair wigs to children across the UK that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Ruby’s auntie Gemma Snow, 29, will also be losing seven inches of her hair to support Ruby.

The determined youngster’s efforts come after she lost her great nana Marlene Hackman to cancer in January 2013, and Ruby will be raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care who cared for Marlene in the last stages of her life.

Ruby’s mother, Kerrie Snow, added that Ruby’s cousin Katie Ings has also battled leukaemia, and her friend Tanya Puckett is undergoing chemotherapy for cervical and lung cancer.

She added: “Tanya said it was difficult enough to lose her own hair so for a girl of this age to do the same for charity is amazing. Ruby is such a courageous girl and is so determined to do this.”

Since the start of the fundraising Ruby has raised more than £300 for on her JustGiving page and £60 from raffle tickets, already beating her fundraising target of £150.

Gemma Snow said: “Ruby is so young but came up with the idea entirely on her own to help her nana – we’re all incredibly proud of her.

“Thank you to everyone who has donated prizes or money so far – Ruby is ecstatic that she has beaten her fundraising target already.

“Marie Curie is a charity very close to our family’s hearts.”

The event will take place from 2pm tomorrow at Thomas J William Hair Design in Dorchester, and there will also be a fundraising raffle with prizes. To donate to Ruby visit justgiving.com/ruby-snow1 or text RSGS77 followed by a pound symbol and the donation amount to 70070.

  • Monica Glass, charity manager for the Little Princess Trust, said: “We would like to thank Ruby sincerely for her wonderful hair donation. Support such as this is invaluable. “Ruby’s hair will form part of a wig that the Trust will give, free of charge, to a child within the UK who is currently suffering with cancer.

“It is truly heartening that someone as young as Ruby is so keen to do so much for others.”
