A TV presenter will help to launch a new community store in Weymouth this Saturday.

Martin Roberts, star of BBC’s Homes Under the Hammer show, has been invited to cut the ribbon at Twice as Nice, a household goods re-use scheme.

Twice is Nice, based in Albany Road on the Granby Industrial Estate, is being launched by housing group Synergy.

As well as meeting Martin, attendees will be able to find out more about the services available under the scheme, volunteering opportunities, and purchase any available items that catch their eye. Light refreshments will also be available.

Twice as Nice is being launched in Dorset following its success in Hampshire and Somerset where it is run by Synergy’s sister company Aster Communities. Since it began in Andover in 2006, the scheme has collected hundreds of items of furniture and provided recycled items to thousands of customers. Items donated have ranged from sofas and bookcases to pet cages and mobility scooters.

Members of local charity Weymouth Community Volunteers (WCV) will help to run the store. WCV recently moved its base to the new site.

The shop’s area manager Laura Kavanagh said: “We’re thrilled to be launching in Dorset. It’s proved extremely popular in Hampshire and Somerset and we’re confident it can be just as successful here.

“The scheme is open to anyone who lives in Dorset whether they’re looking to purchase high-quality second-hand furniture, electrical goods or paint at reduced prices, or donate their unwanted items.

“We’re delighted Martin has agreed to come and help us kick things off and we can’t wait to get started.”

The opening ceremony will begin at 11am.
