EMERGENCY services were alerted to an intoxicated man who had entered the water at Boscombe Pier, Bournemouth.

The incident happened at around 10pm on Tuesday evening.

A Police helicopter was scrambled along with coastguards, an RNLI rescue lifeboat team and Dorset police officers.

The man had been spotted entering the water on CCTV.

He was safely detained by Dorset Police while units were on their way.

Earlier yesterday, a woman was airlifted after suffering from dive sickness.

The incident happened at around 3.30pm.

Coastguards were called to prepare the helicopter landing site for the air ambulance at Whitecliff, Poole.

The woman was taken to a nearby hyperbaric recompression chamber.
