GRANDPARENTS from Stratton will be taking on their own marathon challenge this weekend to support a battling youngster.

While their daughter Sarah Hedley takes on the London Marathon on Sunday, April 13, Terry and Jane O’Donnell will be walking the 27 miles from Salisbury Cathedral to Winchester Cathedral.

All three of them will be raising funds for the Kidney Research UK after being inspired by Sarah’s three-year-old son Oliver, who has deformed kidneys and will eventually need a transplant.

Former fireman Terry, 71, said he and wife Jane were determined to do find their own way of raising funds for brave little Oliver and decided to time the walk to coincide with their daughter’s marathon efforts.

So as Sarah pounds the streets of London alongside thousands of other runners, Terry and Jane will be making their way through the Wiltshire and Hampshire countryside.

Terry said: “We were thinking about young Oliver and his situation with his poor old kidneys and it’s really sad because he’s such a lovely little boy.

“We have always wanted to do that sort of walk so we thought we would do it to line up with the London Marathon.”

Kidney Research UK is the leading UK charity funding research that focuses on kidney disease.

Oliver’s mum Sarah, who lives in Awbridge in Hampshire, said: “I hope that funds raised by this event go some way to helping Oliver and other children and adults who have similar conditions.”

Donations for Jane and Terry can be sent to them at 4 The Old Bull Inn, 46 Dorchester Road, Stratton, Dorset, DT2 9RZ.

Anyone sponsoring them are asked to include their full name and title, house number or name, postcode and the amount so that they can claim gift aid.
