YOUNGSTERS joined a choir to raise the roof at a Weymouth church.

Pupils from St Nicholas and St Laurence Primary School and Radipole Primary School took part in an evening of varied music with the One Voice Choir – for a good cause at St Nicholas Church.

More than 170 people, including Weymouth and Portland mayor Ray Banham, attended to support the rehearsed young voices at the concert.

A total of £335, which was raised during the event, will go towards the Mutindwa School in Kenya.

During the singing session, a local teacher talked about her journey to the school including a display of vivid pictures.

It included songs ‘Joy Inside’, ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ and Bob Marley’s ‘One Love’, as well as others.

John Ellis, One Voice Choir member, said: “Everyone was entertained and demanded an encore.

“It was evident that there was ‘Joy Inside’ reaching out to another continent and another school.”

It comes after the One Voice Choir raised the roof with more than 70 schoolchildren in Weymouth and Portland to raise much needed funds from their charity Christmas album.

Money was divided between children’s centres in the area and the Weymouth Food Bank.
