A SIMPLE procedure to test if men are at risk from prostate cancer is being offered for free in Dorchester.

In the UK around 42,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year.

Almost 11,000 men die of this disease annually, but if caught in the early stages, before any symptoms develop, then cure rates, which have dramatically improved over recent years, are now over 80 per cent.

A simple blood test called the PSA can determine whether men are at risk, but this is not currently routinely offered by the NHS.

Dorset Prostate Cancer Support Organisation (PCaSO) in conjunction with the South Dorset Prostate Cancer Support Group is offering PSA Testing in Dorchester on Saturday, May 17 at the Dorford Centre from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

The testing is conducted by trained personnel using the state-of-the-art Mediwatch Bioscan equipment requiring only a finger prick.

These tests have been carried out throughout the country by support organisations Book an appointment by calling Paul Nichols on 01308 458222.
