PURBECK residents have until May 6 to make sure they are on the electoral register.

People who aren’t on the register won’t be able to vote at the May 22 district, parish or European Parliamentary elections.

Kirsty Riglar, democratic and electoral services manager at Purbeck District Council, said: “Most people will have registered to vote last winter but if you have recently moved to, or within, the district you will need to register to vote by Tuesday, May 6.

“This can be done by contacting Purbeck District Council on the electoral services helpline – 01929 557287 – or by visiting www.aboutmyvote.co.uk to complete the registration form. It is free of charge.”

People who are going on holiday, or who will be unable to get to their polling station can also ensure they don’t miss out.

Kirsty continued: “There’s still time to register to vote by post.

“Application forms to do so can be obtained by calling 01929 557287.

Completed applications must be received by 5pm on Wednesday, May 7, 2014.

“It is also possible to vote by proxy, enabling someone else to vote on your behalf and Wednesday, May 14, at 5pm is the deadline to register to vote by proxy.”

Everyone who has registered to vote should have received a polling card.

Anyone who hasn’t should phone the helpline to check whether they are registered.
