A DAY of football and family fun is coming to Poundbury.

Dorchester Town Football Club is running its fourth annual Community Fun Day at the Great Field on Sunday, May 25.

The event has become a popular fixture in the town’s calendar, with last year’s Fun Day attracting over 1,000 people.

A stage and sound system will be set up with bands and budding musicians playing throughout the day, while there will also be a mini-football tournament, dog show, a funfair, stalls and much more.

The club’s director of fundraising Dave Read said: “It all kicks off at 10am and we have got live bands playing all day.

“We have also got some line dancers doing their bit as well and we have got a dog show in the afternoon.

“In the morning we have got a small football tournament.”

With Dorchester Town FC’s move towards community ownership in recent months, Mr Read said the event had become even more important to the club as it looked to embrace its role in the town.

He said: “We normally get quite a good crowd up there all day.

“We are so community based now it is something we need to do, to get out there into the community.

“It also helps raise some funds as well, which is very important for us being a community club.”

The entertainment is likely to last until around 5pm and visitors to the event will not go hungry or thirsty with a licensed bar and food outlets available.

Mr Read praised all the volunteers and helpers who had helped make the event so successful over the years and was hoping for a similar outcome this time round.

He said: “We do appreciate all the volunteers we get and the work they do to help us on the day.”

The Poundbury Residents Association has also sponsored the sound system for the event.

Anyone interested in getting involved with the event or having a stall is asked to ring Mr Read on 07780 686746.
