THE Earl and Countess of Wessex will be visiting Weymouth Community Safety Centre next Friday, May 2 The royal visitors will be in town to see the work of the SafeWise charity in educating Dorset’s young people.
The couple will meet the charity's trustees, find out about the work of SafeWise and meet some pupils from nearby Conifers Primary School.
Later, they will witness demonstrations by Fire Cadets and technical rescue crews.
Chief Fire Officer, Darran Gunter said: “We are delighted to be welcoming the Earl and Countess of Wessex to Weymouth Community Safety Centre and Fire Station.
"This visit gives recognition for the great work being undertaken at the centre to educate and inform children, young people and those most at risk in Dorset’s communities. We are looking forward to discussing this with The Earl and Countess and how we plan to develop SafeWise and Weymouth Community Safety Centre in the future.”
SafeWise Chief Executive, Alison Shelton said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the visionary work of the fire service and to explain how the new SafeWise charity will build on the partnerships which its sister safety centre in Bournemouth, LV=Streetwise, has developed over the years.
"In SafeWise the emergency services, local authorities, business community and voluntary sectors in Dorset have all come proudly together to develop a premier regional safety charity for people of all ages with enhanced reach, influence and opportunities to save lives throughout the county."
