LEARN more about sustainable seafood at Dorset’s Seafood Festival.
The weekend-long seafood extravaganza will be heading to Weymouth harbouside on July 12 and 13 and the whole family will be able to learn more about sustainable seafood and the benefits of eating fish from Seafish.
The purpose of the public body is to secure a sustainable and profitable future for the UK seafood industry.
Seafish will once again be supporting the festival and helping to inform the thousands of visitors about the story behind Dorset’s seafood.
The organisers of the Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival said they had a responsibility to ensure that the public were informed about the health benefits of seafood, and with the help of Seafish, to prioritise the promotion of sustainable seafood from around UK waters.
Seafish will be running activities showcasing talented chefs and there will also be experts from the industry – all with a story to tell about catching, conserving, processing and serving seafood from across the South West.
Chris Middleton, head of communications at Seafish, said: “Balancing the needs of everybody involved in the UK seafood industry is a complex task, and one that involves taking on a range of responsibilities and activities. “By working alongside successful consumer events like the festival we are able to inform visitors about some of the stories that lie behind the seafood they are enjoying over the weekend.”
The tasty line up for this year’s festival includes: whelks, bass, lobsters, oysters, cockles, razor clams, scallops and crabs.
Festival chairman Roger Dalton, pictured left, is encouraging everyone to come along and try something new.
He said: “Research shows that our eating habits are already formed by the age of five, so make sure you bring the whole family along to the Seafish marquee to enter competitions and to be encouraged to eat more fish.” The event will be raising money for the Fisherman’s Mission.
