  • Weymouth councillor Ryan Hope is appearing at Bournemouth Crown Court this morning accused of nine offences including rape of a child under the age of 13 and sexual assault of a child under the age of 13.
  • Today is the first day of the trial.
  • Hope, 22, of Norfolk Road, has denied all offences.
  • The allegations span a period between October 17, 2005, and December 31, 2012, and relate to a single victim.

The jury has been sent home for the day. The trial will resume at 10.30am tomorrow.

The trial has now resumed.

The trial has not yet resumed.

The trial has broken for lunch. It will resume at 2.15pm.

The court is now being played a video recording of the alleged victim and the same police officer at a later date.

The jury heard that Hope had allegedly attempted to 'bribe' the victim with money to carry out sexual acts.

In the video the alleged victim is describing multiple alleged incidents.

He said on one occasion Hope made him 'lie down' and assaulted him.

The jury is being shown a police interview with the victim recorded in January 2013.

The victim can not be named for legal reasons.

Ms Aspinall-Miles has opened the prosecution case.

She told the jury the victim did not come forward before November 2011 because they thought no would would believe them and would think they were 'stupid.'

She said the victim also feared making such claims against a councillor.

Ms Aspinall-Miles has now called the victim to give evidence before the court.

There have been changes to the indictment.

Hope has pleaded not guilty to nine offences including rape of a child under the age of 13.

The charges, some of which involve alleged multiple incidents, all relate to the same victim.

The jury of six men and six women has now entered the courtroom.

Judge Wiggs is opening the trial. He has told the jury Hope was a Lib Dem councillor representing Westham and he is now an independent councillor representing the same ward.

The trial is planned to run until Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

Ryan Hope has entered the dock.

Mary Aspinall-Miles is representing the prosecution. Mark Ruffell is representing the defence.

The trial jury has been sworn in. Judge Samuel Wiggs is presiding over the case.
