POLICE are hunting two men after another man needed hospital treatment after an assault.

Officers in Gillingham are appealing to the public to come forward with any information about the incident that happened between 3.40am and 3.50am on Sunday April 27 at the junction of New Road and Newbury.

Dorset Police said a 32-year-old man from Sherborne was driving along the road and slowing down as he approached the traffic lights. He then heard someone, believed to be a pedestrian, hit the back of his car.

He came to a stop and got out to see what had happened when he was attacked by two men who punched him several times.

Police Constable Jonathan Fewins, of Gillingham police, said: “The victim sustained cuts and bruises which required hospital treatment. “The offenders were both wearing Gillingham Rugby Club ties and it is thought they had been seen at Legends Nightclub earlier on.”

He added: “I urge any witnesses to the incident to come forward as soon as possible.

“Anyone with information that can assist with the investigation is asked to contact Dorset Police in the strictest confidence.”

Witnesses should call Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 27:95.
