A DORCHESTER student has been crowned Miss Dorset 2014.

Holly Broomfield is studying for a geography degree at the University of Southampton.

She was crowned the winner of the Miss Dorset 2014 contest at the ceremony in Bournemouth on Sunday.

The judges chose between the ladies based on three rounds.

Holly, 22, said she was ecstatic to have won.

“I graduate in two weeks and now I suddenly have so many things to do,” she added.

“I am absolutely over the moon and I can’t wait to go to Miss England and have a great time.

“I’ve made so many friends and I just couldn’t believe it when everybody started clapping and I realised it was me.”

Holly impressed the judges with her homemade dress, a round modelling evening wear and her interview with host and former Miss Dorset and Miss England Jackie Turner.

Jackie said she was proud of Holly and is looking forward to helping her during the course of her reign.

“The support we have had from everyone involved has been immense,” she added.

Second place went to 23-year-old Kate Greenwood and third to Kirsty Hallett, 22.

The judging panel included current Miss England and Miss UK Kirsty Heslewood, who travelled from Hertfordshire to attend the event.

Kirsty said on Sunday: “It was a really tough competition tonight and has been hard trying to pick a winner.

“They have all worked extremely hard for charity and making a recycled outfit requires a lot of confidence. I am very proud of all the contestants that took part.”

All the contestants of Miss Dorset helped raise funds for charities Beauty with a Purpose and Julia’s House, which benefits disadvantaged children throughout the UK.
