COASTGUARDS were called after an item of ordnance was discovered near Lulworth Cove.

An investigation was launched at around 7pm on Monday on Worbarrow Bay Beach, to the east of Lulworth Cove.

The object was deemed to be safe.

Dorset Police also attended the scene.

Earlier on Monday, coastguards were called by a kayaker who was alongside a broken down cabin cruiser just off Brownsea Island.

The incident happened at around 10.30am.

The person on board the vessel had no battery life on his mobile phone and no other means of calling for help.

Rescuers towed the boat into a nearby marina.
