PUPILS are being encouraged to pedal to school with the opening of a new cycle storage facility.

The facility has been unveiled at the Prince of Wales First School, Dorchester.

Charity Sustrans, has worked with the school since September 2013 to encourage children to choose two wheels for the school run.

The number of pupils who cycle everyday has doubled since Sustrans began working with them.

The shelters were funded jointly by Sustrans and Dorset County Council, through a grant.

Sustrans Bike It officer for the school Jonathan Dixon said: β€œIt’s great for everyone that all these new shelters are in place. Encouraging people to travel by bike is not only good for their health and a cheap way to get around but it will reduce congestion on local roads too.”
