STUDENTS got to learn about how the planets work in an experience that was ‘out of this world’.
Staff and students from IPACA and St George’s Primary School on Portland enjoyed a virtual voyage into outer space with the Space Odyssey experience - a multimedia audio-visual immersive environment inside a huge inflatable dome that was set up in IPACAs Royal Manor campus sports hall.
The Odyssey experience aims to educate youngsters about space and physics with an engaging interactive presentation.
Event organiser and science teacher, Amy Greenwood said: “I know from teaching science that learning about space is one of the most popular topics.
“It captures the imagination, gets children thinking and is an area of science that is current and exciting.”
She added: “Children at our primary campuses learn about the Earth and its place in the Solar System, and by the time they do their GCSEs with us they should be able to explain the evidence backing up theories such as the origin of the Moon, the Big Bang and the life histories of stars – the Space Odyssey really brings this learning to life.”
Students said they enjoyed the presentation.
Molly Bowsher said: “I learned a lot.”
“I loved it,” said Kyanna Richardson and Charlie-Mae Barnwell summed it up by saying: “It was fascinating and I learnt a lot.”
