Author gives profits from book about her late daughter to hospital

Dorset Echo: MEMORIES: Rosemary Locock with the book about her daughter Karina MEMORIES: Rosemary Locock with the book about her daughter Karina

A MOTHER inspired to write about her late teenage daughter’s battle with cancer has given a bit back to the hospital wards which looked after her.

Rosemary Locock from Weymouth wrote a book in memory of her daughter Karina Glynn, who died of cancer aged just 17.

The book, ‘Karina’, was launched at Weymouth Community Fire Station last June on the 10th anniversary of Karina’s death.

Happy memories and painful recollections are contained in the emotional account of Karina’s 20-month battle with a rare bone cancer.

Completion of the book was among the promises kept by Mrs Locock to Karina and she organised community events to fund it.

Mrs Locock’s plan was to split the profits from the sale of the book to the hospital wards at Dorset County Hospital and Southampton General Hospital. Mrs Locock has now presented cheques for £1,325 to Kingfisher ward at DCH and to Piam Brown ward at Southampton.

She said: “It doesn’t seem possible it has been 11 months since I published the book.

“Just like the past 11 years, time has flown by so quickly.

“One thing that has come out of those years is being able to carry out Karina’s wish and publish the book just as Karina had wanted.”

Mrs Locock travelled up to Piam Brown Ward in Southampton to present them with a cheque for £1,325.

She said: “The money had already been earmarked to update the teenage room on the ward which will be a fitting tribute to Karina.

“The other £1,325 was presented to the Kingfisher ward, and is going to be used towards new beds for parents to stay overnight.”

Mrs Locock still has 15 books left for sale. To buy one contact her on 07789 505609.
