DORSET Lions groups clubbed together to ensure a bumper donation for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

The Lions Zone, made up of local clubs from Weymouth and Portland, Dorchester, Bridport and the Blackmore Vale, made fundraising for the hospice charity their joint project last year and their efforts resulted in a combined total of £2,000 to donate to the cause.

Lions members from across the county joined staff from the Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester for a presentation event.

Zone chairman Dave Woolford did the honours of handing over the cheque to senior sister Sally-Anne Baverstock.

Dave said: “Every year we do a zone project where each club has to raise the same amount.

“This year we heard the nurses at Weldmar wanted some commodes and bed spreads and that’s what we have given them the money for, so they can go and purchase them.”

Sally-Anne said that the funds would be very gratefully received at the hospice.

She said: “It’s very welcome, it’s a fantastic amount.”
