THE MOST feared of all the dinosaurs was spotted in Dorchester this morning.

The Tyrannosaurus Rex appears to have taken a liking to the county town and has made Dorchester his new home.

A life-size fibre glass reconstruction of the iconic dinosaur arrived at the town’s Dinosaur Museum, with his addition celebrating the venue’s 30th anniversary this year.

After a delicate operation he was lifted off a truck and over a fence into the museum yard, where he now stands alongside popular long term resident ‘Tricky’ the Triceratops.

Children will now be invited to make suggestions for a name for the T Rex.

Museum curator Tim Batty said that he was delighted to see the new arrival in place after the logistical challenge of lifting him into place.

He said: “It was a bit more tricky than we thought but it looks great now it’s in place.

“It’s a great addition to the museum.”

Mr Batty said that 65 million years ago the Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus Rex would have been natural enemies so he may have to keep an eye on the two residents of the yard.

He said: “We may have to screw them down so they don’t get up to any tricks.”

Tricky has been at the museum since shortly after it opened and, as the venue celebrated its 30th anniversary, Mr Batty said it was about time he had some company.

He said: “It’s fitting to have added the T Rex now.”

Mr Batty added that he was confident the T Rex would prove just as popular as Tricky had been over the years.

He said: “The Triceratops has been with the museum almost since its inception and has become a much loved exhibit with both visitors to the museum and passing locals.

“It is fantastic that she is to be joined by a fiercesome T Rex, it will make the scene complete.”
