GENEROUS people in Weymouth and Dorchester helped raise more than £1,700 for people in need across the world.
Coordinator of collectors Zdenka Bollom has thanked all those who supported the 2014 annual appeal of ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) UK.
Through door to door collections and other fundraising, the appeal in the local area amassed a total of £1,718.
The funds will be used to bring education, skills and tools as well as food, water and clothing to needy people.
Zdenka said nine of the 11 volunteers helping with the collection were from other countries themselves, including her sister-in-law Li Ting who was on holiday from China.
She also thanked the 17 businesses in Weymouth and Dorchester that hosted collecting tins, which contributed towards the total.
They included Floods restaurant, which raised nearly £200, The Hair Boutique, which collected £112.89, and Starbucks in Weymouth, which raised £86.54.
Zdenka also thanked those who opened their doors to the collectors, the collectors themselves, and the Dorset Echo for publicising the appeal.
