A POET hosted a meet and greet session at a library to raise awarenesss of her work.
Arra Lindemann, 23, from Abbotsbury, appeared at Weymouth Library and performed a couple of her poems.
Arra said the opportunity came about after she approached the library’s manager.
She said: “It was a chance for me to show people my poems. My poems were on display in the library.
“Lots of people showed interest. I spoke to about 10 people and I read out a couple of poems.”
Arra read out ‘Battlefield’, which commemorates the 100th anniversary of the First World War, as well a poem entitled ‘Celebrity’.
Explaining the second poem, Arra said: “It’s basically about a celebrity – no one in particular. It’s just saying ‘I’m a celebrity. You get stopped in the street. You’ve got the media following you’. It’s a poem telling people we are humans too.”
Arra said she’s currently midway through writing her anthology, which could be out by the end of the year.
She said: “I’m about halfway through writing it.
“I have written about 54 poems so far.
“I’ve got a long way to go before I send it off to the publishers.”
Arra said she started writing poems in November last year, and was inspired after reading Till Lindermann’s In stillen Nächten.
Arra said: “I read that and that inspired me to write my own poems. He’s like my main muse.”
She was sat on a stone bench in Weymouth Peace Garden when she was stirred to write her first poem ‘Autumn Leaves’.
Arra said her attention was caught by a falling leaf which led her to writing the poem’s first two lines.
She added: “The other thing that got me interested in it was my love of nature.
“Before I knew it I was writing poems every day. I don’t know what happened. I just discovered I had a talent for it.”
Arra will be giving a poetry reading at the Ilchester Arms in Abbotsbury on June 7, starting at 2pm.
