TWO drivers escaped with only minor injuries after a collision along the A356, just outside Maiden Newton.

The incident took place at around 6.30pm on Saturday with police, fire and ambulance crews arriving at the scene.

One of the cars was a Renault Scenic registered to a driver in Dorchester whilst the other was a silver BMW registered to a driver from Somerset.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service appliances from Maiden Newton and Dorchester were mobilised and arrived to find both vehicles had left the road.

Crews requested the help of two light off road appliances to help stabilise the vehicles. These were sent from Maiden Newton and Beaminster.

Both casualties escaped with minor injuries. One was allowed home after being assessed by paramedics while the other was taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

A spokesman for Dorset Police confirmed a car had gone into a hedge and into a telegraph pole but no serious injuries were caused.

He said: β€œIt was just a slight injury in the end luckily. The road was closed as we were getting the vehicles recovered.”
