A WEYMOUTH pair cut hair against the clock for a good cause.

Karen Figgit, 33, a customer services manager at Dorset County Council, is fundraising for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and teamed up with her hairdresser who is celebrating 45 years in the business.

Her team-mate, hairdresser Paula Cotton, cut 24 men and children’s hair for donations non-stop for six hours at OJOs Hair Salon in Lincoln Road, Weymouth.

The event raised cash for Verity, which supports women with PCOS, an incurable condition affecting up to 10 per cent of UK women. Karen said: “Paula’s target was to cut one person’s hair every 15 minutes or so, so she cut 24 people’s hair to complete the six hours.”

More than £400 has been raised from the challenge and Karen said the day had been a success.

She said “It’s been brilliant. A couple of people pulled out due to illness but I went out street canvassing and filled the spaces. There’s been a very good turnout, one child even had her first haircut aged 14 months.

“The community has been great at getting involved and I’ve chatted to a few people about Verity so it’s raising awareness too”.

Karen added: “Three years ago I got symptoms I’ve never had and thought it might be PCOS.

“I went to one of Verity’s annual conferences and gained the support and confidence I needed to go to my doctor and get diagnosed and treated.”
